Oh, you've probably seen the movie by now. Still loved it, though! XD
That part was little...dissapointing, but the rest of the movie is badass!
I liked the inversion, however. AIM was always a underrated silly villain group in the comics and cartoons, and Mandarin was always made to be such a big villain. Turning Mandaring into a scare symbol for a false flag operation and AIM into a big evil corporation was kind of clever.
Just give him technological rings, or from Chitauri tech, or even Cosmic Cube (as above), or ever make each ring control one extermis soldier (like I hoped during the movie).
But I understand, of cource Communist China cannot take a pun ;/
Yeah, alien technology like in the Armored Adventures was a good option. It was an unexpected inversion, and that's why I liked it. When we first hear of Mandarin, we all know who he is and how dangerous he can be. When people hear of AIM, they don't know what they're about, or just laugh and ask "Those hazmat suit guys with MODOK?! Pfth!"
Personally, I don't think they explore evil organizations a lot in the comics. HYDRA, AIM, The Hand, Hellfire Club. Lots of evil groups, but there's little to no depth to them, and most of them are made for small arcs of story or as part of propaganda against political enemies, like Red Skull with the Nazis, Mandarin and Vanko with the Communists. And the metaphor behind the Mandarin propaganda in the film was simply awesome! You compare the big, ominous looking Mandarin, in that Samurai-Monk-Dictator outfit, with corporate executive pretty blonde guy Aldrich Killian, who you'll assume is the real Big Bad?
